How to avoid Virtual Network Failures After a Live Migration 'extended-mapin-space' is set to 'on' BUG:17694771

HOW TO AVOID EXTENDED-MAPIN-SPACE ISSUE This issue applies to: Oracle VM Sun Software - Generic Solaris SPARC Operating System SPARC Guest domains  Solaris 10 or Solaris 11 on Oracle VM Server for SPARC (LDOMs 2.1 to 3.1) may experience virtual network failures after a live migration operation if 'extended-mapin-space' is set to 'on'. You can check if you have set to 'on' the value extended-mapin-space as below   # ldm list -l | grep extended-mapin-space=on In the /var/adm/messages when the issue is happening you can see the following vnet1: exceeded number of permitted handshake attempts (5) on channel 22 To avoid this issue, set 'extended-mapin-space' to 'off' before executing a live migration. If the described  issue has already occurred, the system can be restored by executing the following commands to re-establish the virtual network connectivity: ldm stop <affected guest domain> ldm unbind <affe

HOW TO CREATE VNIC OVER INTERFACES SOLARIS 11.X

HOW TO CREATE VNIC OVER INTERFACES SOLARIS 11.X     1.- The first that you need to know is what interfaces is available   #dladm show-phys LINK              MEDIA      STATE      SPEED  DUPLEX    DEVICE net0              Ethernet    up        0      unknown   vnet0  2.- You will need to plumb the interface, in previous solaris release you can use "ifconfig net0 plumb" , however in Solaris 11.X, we will need to use the command ipadm #ipadm create-ip net0 3.- Now you need to assign ip address to the net0 and add the Default GW  #ipadm create-addr -T static -a 10.1.1.3/24 net0/ipv4 #route -p add default 10.1.1.1 4.-Finally you can create VNIC's or Virtual Interfaces with the aliases  #ipadm create-addr -T static -a 10.1.1.4/24 net0/prote #ipadm create-addr -T static -a 10.1.1.5/24 net0/prder #ipadm create-addr -T static -a 10.1.1.6/24 net0/prder1 NAME              CLASS/TYPE STATE        UNDER      AD

How to configurate IPMP Solaris

Verify hosts files and if you do not have them #more /etc/hosts Add them in our case we will work with names in the hosts file below #vi /etc/hosts 10.1.1.5   spa01 10.1.1.6   spa01-test1 10.1.1.7    spa01-test2 Verify Network and Netmask #more /etc/netmasks 10.10.10.0   255.255.255.0 Interface Configuration # /sbin/ifconfig bge0 spa01-test1 netmask + broadcast + group ipmp0  deprecated -failover up # /sbin/ifconfig ce0  spa02-test2 netmask + broadcast + group ipmp0 deprecated -failover up \ addif spa01 netmask + broadcast + failover up You can save the configuration on the following files /etc/hostname.bge0 spa01-test1 netmask + broadcast + group ipmp0 deprecated -failover up /etc/hostname.ce0 spa02-test2 netmask + broadcast + group ipmp0 deprecated -failover up \ addif spa01 netmask + broadcast + failover up You can verify the time to detect any NIC failure #more /etc/default/m pathd # #pragma ident    "@(
